Yes that’s right! We are so excited to announce that we are one of the first institutions in the UK to be able to offer our students the opportunity to gain an official Locksmith qualification! We have partnered with Highfield to produce our Level 3 Diploma for Commercial Locksmiths and Property Security, approved by Ofqual. This is new for 2020 and is the highest and only government recognised Locksmith qualification available in the UK!

What this means for the Locksmith Industry

Currently there are no legal requirements or qualifications needed to become a Locksmith although it has always been recommended to gain sufficient training with an approved Locksmith centre. Most sub-contracting companies, Keytek® included require Locksmiths to hold an official Locksmith accreditation and a full DBS check before signing onto their books!

With this being said, times are changing and we are preparing for the future where we expect Locksmiths will be required to attain an official Locksmith qualification much like many other similar industries to comply with regulations and health and safety protocols.

We believe this a great step forward in the Locksmithing industry as it means Locksmiths will be trained to higher standards, learn new skills in the ever changing security market and be able to provide their customers with the best security solutions for their homes or businesses.

Gain your Locksmith Qualification with Keytek® Academy

You will be trained to the highest standards by industry professionals in our purpose-built Locksmith training academy, located in Poole, Dorset. All of our courses are limited to just three students per course, this ensures that each student receives extensive 1 to 1 training and can remain a safe distance from one another.  All Keytek® Academy students are provided with their own doors and set of tools so there is no waiting around and you are able to refine your skills.

You will be individually monitored and given extra help where needed during the course to ensure you are trained to the highest standards. No questions or requests are too big or too small!

Locksmith Qualification Course Breakdown

Our official Locksmith Qualification course consists of 14 separate unit modules, all of which are essential to becoming a highly skilled and knowledgeable Locksmith. The initial training takes place over 8 days in our Keytek® Training Academy, the first 5 days consist of learning a wide variety of Locksmith skills including identification, operation, opening techniques, fitting and upgrading the most common lock types.

The following 3 days will teach you about health and safety protocols, providing quotations for your customers, risk assessments and maintaining efficient records. During this time you will also have the opportunity to refine the skills you have learnt over the first 5 days and be provided with industry scenario training to ensure you are as prepared as can be when you’re out on the road.

Locksmith Qualification Award

After the first 5 days of successful training and assessment you will be awarded with an NCFE level 4 Locksmith Accreditation*, this is previously the highest Locksmith qualification available. With this accreditation you are able to go out to work, if completed successfully you will potentially be offered subcontracting work with Keytek®.  We will then require evidence of the Locksmith work you have completed by sending in photos over the following 3-6 months. After sufficient evidence over this time period you will be awarded with your level 3 Diploma for Commercial Locksmiths and Property Security!
